Maryport The Senhouse Roman Museum, Maryport. Backup
"The oldest collection of Roman sculpture and inscriptions in Britain displayed in a building constructed in 1885 as a gun battery. Dramatically sited on the cliffs overlooking Maryport harbour and the Solway Firth, the Museum adjoins the site of the Roman fort built by the emperor Hadrian in AD 124. "The Beacon tells the story of the town's industrial, social and maritime heritage. Characters, audio visuals, graphic and interactive displays, bring the history alive. Whitehaven The Haig Colliery Mining Museum, Whitehaven. Backup
"Since its closure in 1986 Haig Colliery, Cumbria's last deep coal mine, has been restored by volunteers.
