Whinlatter
Forest Park
"...England's only Mountain Forest..." Owned by the Forestry Commission and situated between Keswick and Cockermouth via Whinlatter Pass. Information from Whinlatter Visitor Centre on Tel: (017687) 78469.
Plenty to do and see at Whinlatter one of the Forestry Commissions oldest forests. Recreation is provided by lots of walks and trails, cycle trails, visitor centre with shop and tearooms, activities for children and the family. Meet the giant badger in his sett, or run the "rabbit run". Also a working environment managed for timber and conservation. Access from Whinlatter to some stunning high level walks with magnificent views carefully waymarked. Plenty of picnic areas and parking for cars. Toilets. |
