Garden Cottage is a single dwelling in a converted 18th century barn adjoining the owner's garden. It is a very comfortable, roomy cottage tastefully furnished, with excellent facilities and is situated in the small rural hamlet of Pardshaw Hall on the edge of the Lake District National Park. Garden Cottage has views over open fields and overlooks Pardshaw Crag, a delightful feature of geological, botanical and scenic interest. Visitors to the cottage are free to walk on the Crag and enjoy the superb views of the western Lakeland fells, the Solway Plain and the hills and coastline of Dumfries and Galloway. Grazing on the Crag is controlled by the owners in order to maintain the special nature of the flora.
The tiny quiet hamlet of Pardshaw Hall, consists of about eight old houses and cottages built in the 18th century, some new dwellings and the Quaker Meeting House nestling at the foot of the Crag.
Cockermouth, a designated “GEM” town, is about three miles away and has many interesting shops, restaurants and pubs including the famous Jennings Brewery and Wordsworth House.
The nearest lake, also three miles away, is Loweswater famous for its spectacular and much photographed scenery and the peaks of 'Haystacks' and 'Melbreak'.
Visitors can enjoy the many quiet lanes, bridleways and fell-paths close by which give wonderful biking and walking both in winter and summer. There are also many interesting places and attractions to visit, as well as activities for which the "Lakes" is well known: walking, climbing, biking, water, sports and peaceful and scenic areas to relax. Garden Cottage has plenty of information for visitors on all of these activities within the area. |
