CUMBRIA WILDLIFE TRUST

The Wild Life Trust Cumbria Logo

This is the only organisation devoted wholly to the practical conservation of all forms of wildlife and natural beauty in the county.

Cumbria, being the second largest county in England, has more wildlife sites of national and international importance, than any other country. It is unique in its range and diversity of landscape, and has a  wonderfully beautiful and constantly changing landscape.

What is Cumbria Wildlife TrustBird

One of 48 Wildlife Trusts actively promoting conservation in Britain. It is a registered charity, supported by members' subscriptions and donations.

At present there are 3.500 members, although many of them are naturalists, many more have no special knowledge, but enjoy and care about the wild plants and animals and the kind of landscapes they thrive in.

Wildlife Watch is a nation wide club for children and young teenagers interested in wildlife. More than 1,000 children are involved in Cumbrian Watch Groups. Whether pond-dipping, creating gardens for wildlife or enjoying picnics and barbecues, Wildlife Watch members have a lot of enjoyment whilst learning about the environment. They have measured acid rain, recorded the first frogspawn and are taking part in Esso Treewatch, a major three year project taking place throughout Britain and involving all aspects of trees: adding significantly to our knowledge of wildlife in Cumbria. From 8 to 18, all are welcome.
