WELFARE TO WORK

Please do not be put off by the phrase "Welfare to Work" linked to people with disabilities.  This is a new Government initiative designed to improve the job opportunities for disabled people who:

bullet

need continuing support to remain in employment;

bullet

want to re-enter employment, through re-training, for example;

bullet

are entering employment for the first time;

bullet

are not ready for work but want to move closer to the world of work.

If you have any comments or input at all then please contact Leslie Miller Welfare to Work contact email address directly.

Lloyd Neale has been personally involved with this initiative because he thinks that the disabled people of Cumbria deserve a more integrated system of National Health Service, Social Services, Disability Employment Advisor Service, Careers, Employers, etc to help them have a better self worth.  He is presently involved with a couple of hours a week in a voluntary role.

As far as I know, every disabled person will have to attend an interview in the future.  This at first will seem very threatening and will look like the Government are trying to reduce or stop paying their Benefits.  Please do not be worried as the interviews should be carried out in a sympathetic manner to your personal circumstances and disability.

We have decided to delete the readable copy from this page as it is very out of date.
