When Raymond, the Manager at Plimsoll’s Leisure Club in the Castle Inn Hotel, asked Lloyd Neale to go for the Million metres he was only thinking about a quarter or perhaps a half of that considering it took him 9 months in 1997 to complete 100,000 metres! Now there is no going back and he has planned to finish by the Spring 2000. He finally completed the Million Metres on the 27th May 2000.  Here is a photograph of the finish!

On the 3rd June, Lloyd successfully walked six and a half miles up Snowdon in North Wales in 5 hours.  The support team people were Matthew, Lloyd's Son, Rob and Jane Whiteman and Peter and Heather Crompton and their three children, Hannah, Matthew and Rebecca.  It was a great social event as many people that we met asked why we were doing it.  After explaining they were happy to make a donation.  We were very pleased to have collected £85 on the mountain and would like to thank everyone if they should read this. SNOWDON TRAINING

Although unable to walk without elbow crutches since his road traffic accident in 1994 Lloyd is determined to enjoy as many physical pursuits as he can.  He recently accepted a challenge from friends in the area to walk up Snowdon, the highest mountain at 3,560 feet high in both England and Wales.  Part of his preparation for this madness was to walk up Skiddaw near Bassenthwaite Lake at about 3,200 feet high.  On the 3rd May Lloyd succeeded with his support team of Rob and Jane Whiteman from Cockermouth and of course our dog Danny.  Here is a summit photo for the record! Two weeks later Rob again supported Lloyd out on the fells to Steel Fell in Borrowdale.  This was a 5 mile walk where Lloyd tried walking poles instead of the elbow crutches as an experiment.  This was alright for a short distance only.  Lloyd has broken the aluminium tube in the crutches and a ferrule in the past and it is very difficult to continue in these remote places.  So backup equipment is vital.  Here is a summit photo for the record!
