Helene Bahn, 44, claims that she suffered a herniated disc in her
neck when band member A.J. McLean tossed his shirt into the crowd at
a Feb 27 show in St. Petersburg, Fla.
Bahn reportedly needed surgery after the concert, according to the
report.
"She got a hold of it, but also some people behind her got a
hold of it and basically what happened was, it got wrapped around
her neck and she was jerked backwards," Bahn's attorney David
Heil said.
Heil said that McLean should have known better than to throw his
shirt into the audience, according to Local 6 News. "You throw
something out into the crowd," Heil said. "You know the
fans are going to go for it. And there's a substantial likelihood
that someone is going to get hurt."
The lawsuit names McLean and The Backstreet Boys, according to the
report.
McLean's mother, Denise, said that she was not surprised at lawsuits
against the boy band.
"You just get some people out there that, for whatever reason,
jealousy or whatever, they feel like they deserve a piece of the
success," she said.
Heil said that Bahn's medical bills total more than $10,000,
according to Local 6 News.

Howie Dorough combines his humanitarian work without neglecting his
work with the Backstreet Boys
Howie Dorough, member of the popular group the Backstreet Boys, made
a break in his global musical activities with Kevin, AJ, Nick, and
Brian, to visit our country along with his sister, Pollyanna Dorough,
to promote his Dorough Lupus Foundation, which helps people
(afflicted with) Lupus.
In this manner, the Latin Backstreet Boy took advantage of his time
in Mexico to participate in a marathon radiothon which was organized
by EXA, which also promoted this organization (DLF) of which he is
the founder and which he represents around the work, taking
advantage of his membership in the band famous for its song
"Everybody".
"Its perfect that thanks to my status as a singer, I can help
many people, and the good way to do it by promoting sufficient
information and economic means to combat this illness that,
unfortunately, doesn't have a cure", Howie said in the press
conference that he made, at which Howie's put aside his celebrity
image in order to show his humanitarian side.
"The main priority of this foundation - indicated by the
siblings - is to contribute the resources necessary to investigate
possible cures for this illness; as well as launch information
campaigns on its causes, symptoms, and the care that afflicted
patient should have".
"As much time as my activities in the group allow me, I will be
starting conferences and carrying the message in order that the
people will be informed as to what is is happening with this
padecimiento (??? illness? movement/program/activity? ); my sister
Pollyanna is dedicating the major part of her time working in the
Foundation, carrying my presence (thoughts, ideas) to all the places
she visits."
The Dorough Lups Foundation was created by Howie when his sister
Caroline died from Lupus 4 years ago, at the age of 37. Since that
moment this organization has dedicated itself to help Lupus patients
and to inform the general population about it.
Lupus attacks women between the ages of 15 and 35 years, and men
between the ages of 20 and 40 years. This illness is not contagious
and, in Mexico, 2 million have this illness and 50 percent of them
don't know they have it.
In other topics, and about his work as a member of the Backstreet
Boys, Howie commented that at this time, the group can be found
recording their new album work, which is being supervised by Glen
Ballard , chief producer for Alanis Morrisette, (and) which will be
released globally in the month of September.
