Stars Celebrate Father's Day
back up

Father's Day is right around the corner, which means it's time to
thank dad for doing what he does best: being a dad.
We caught up with some of today's hottest stars to find out what
they're doing to celebrate their fathers on the big day.
Like the Carter kids, Father's Day may take you by surprise, but
it's Sunday (June 16).
"I don't know," Nick Carter told Katrillion in response to
whether he'd be spending the holiday with dear old dad. "I have
a really hard time remembering anything. I remember two holidays:
Halloween and Christmas, that's it."
"I am," Aaron Carter gloated.
What does a pop star purchase for pop? Vanessa Carlton is going the
sentimental route this year. "I owe him so much," she
said. "Maybe I should write him a song, I should write him a
Father's Day song. That would be good."
Vanessa isn't the only superstar who is grateful to pop.
"It's just an honor to work with my dad because he's been in
the business for 10 years," Lil' Romeo told Katrillion about
his dad, Master P. "He's on my side.
Echoing similar thoughts was Kelly Osbourne, who said dad Ozzy is
one of her favorite artists ... really.
Nearly 11,000 readers voted in Katrillion's "Who's the Coolest
Dad in Music?" voting booth. *NSYNC superstar Joey Fatone won
36 percent of the votes for best dad. P. Diddy came in second with
29 percent, while Master P took last place with 10 percent. Fred
Durst and Scott Stapp were also choices. By:Valerie Nome.

What
Makes Pollyanna Dorough So Amazing?

Magazine
By Sandy Lo Grasso
You probably know Pollyanna by her last name. Yes, she is the sister
of Backstreet Boy, Howie Dorough (better known as Howie D.). You may
have even heard Pollyanna's voice because you downloaded the theme
song to the Dorough Lupus Foundation, simply to hear Howie sing
backup. But once you listened to the melodic rhythm of Pollyanna's
lyrics and paid attention to the meaning behind the song, "Fly
To Heaven", which was written by the Latin styled singer
herself, you became hooked.
Pollyanna grew up in Orlando, Florida where she pursued theater and
was an entertainer at Walt Disney World. She then moved to New York
to attend the Westchester Conservatory of Music. After she got her
degree, Pollyanna moved back to Florida and began teaching music as
well as became the choir director. Even though Pollyanna was still
involved in music, she was always seeking a singing career for
herself.
In 1998, Pollyanna's sister Caroline, who had been suffering from
lupus for thirteen years succumbed to the disease leaving the
Dorough family devastated. A doctor approached Howie and suggested
he put his celebrity to good use and help make people aware of the
disease. From there the Dorough Lupus Foundation was formed and
"Fly To Heaven" became a tribute to Caroline that will
live on forever.
For the past five years, Pollyanna has been writing and recording as
well as performing at several benefits, not only for her own
foundation, but for many others as well. Recently, she performed at
the Volunteer Teens Fair in Central Park where she did meet-n-greets
with tons of fans and performed a few songs off her much anticipated
upcoming debut album.
Pollyanna's music can touch hearts as well as make them light. From
beautiful and somber, "Fly To Heaven" to upbeat and
rhythmic, "Andale Mi Corazon", Pollyanna's voice is
uplifting and shows true strength. She's a breath of fresh air
especially with all the candy pop clones out nowadays. Pollyanna's
as real as you can get with her own fashion sense, her own songs and
just being true to herself.
On Pollyanna's official website, www.pollyanna.net,
there's many ways the fans can reach out to her. There's a Q&A
section, which Pollyanna does answer herself and also a message
board where fans can interact. On the contact page there's a PO Box
to send fan mail, which only Pollyanna holds the key to!
Pollyanna continues to showcase her talents at the Dorough Lupus
benefits as well as appearances such as most recently Fox's
"Celebrity Boxing" and MTV's "Wannabes". This is
only the beginning for the "Spanglish" singer to embrace
the music world and make it her own!

Senator VS. Backstreet
Vexed by the parade of cause celebs from Julia Roberts (Rett
syndrome research) to Christie Brinkly (nuclear energy) on Capital
Hill recently , Sen. George Voinovich of Ohio , 65, boycotted the
June 6 congressional appearance of Backstreet Boy Kevin Richarson,
30, who testified about the environmental impact of coal mining.
"It's just a joke," says Voinovich, "to think that
this witness can provide members of the U.S. Senate with information
on important geological and water quality issues."
Richardson, who grew up in Kentucky's heavily mined Appalachian
Mountains and heads his own environmental foundation, Just Within
Reach , begs to differ. "Senator Voinovich doesn't know where
I'm from, what experiences I've had," says the singer.
"
I'm here today not as a celebrity; I'm here as a concerned citizen.
To prejudge someone is unfair. It's unfortunate he wasn't here. I
might have taught him something."
