Two
Backstreet Boys considering investment, hotel official says
back
up
Source: NJ.com
LITTLE ROCK (AP) -- Two members of the Backstreet Boys are in Little
Rock until Tuesday, meeting with Peabody Hotel developers about
possible investment in an Alabama hotel, a hotel official said.
Kevin Richardson and Howie Dorough met with Marty Belz and Bruce
Burrow of Belz Burrow Development Group in Jonesboro. Belz is chairman
of the Memphis, Tenn., based Peabody Hotel group.
Peabody Hotel manager Timothy Gonser said the pair were staying at the
hotel. He said they toured the hotel and the city with Burrow.
"We know them through their attorney," Gonser said.
"The visit is about maybe doing some investing
together."
The investing would be in a new Peabody Hotel and entertainment center
in downtown Huntsville, Ala. It would be the pop stars' first
investments with the company.
"Hopefully, our association would begin with the Huntsville
project and expand from there," Gonser said.

Brian
Littrell becomes baseball Boy

Atlanta Braves Kevin Millwood, Rafael Furcal, Andruw Jones and Gary
Sheffield hit Turner Field early Tuesday afternoon to give the
vertically challenged kid wearing the No. 20 jersey some tips.
Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell was in the ballpark in full Braves
uniform, complete with cleats and batting gloves poking out of his
back pocket to film a segment for MTV's upcoming "Rock 'N
Jocks" program. This year's show, which will also feature James
Van Der Beek and Jaime Pressly, focuses on celebrities working out
with their sports faves. Originally, MTV wanted the former Floridian
to work out with players from the Florida Marlins. But Littrell, who
now lives in Alpharetta with wife Leighanne, dug in his cleats on
Georgia clay. The singer says he's been a Braves fan since he was
"a little kid" and wanted to film with his team.
Incidentally, Littrell had a bit of experience to draw from while he
fielded, pitched and banged balls around Tuesday. He played in both
Little League and the Babe Ruth League growing up.

I
Want It Platinum
back up
Source: Billboard
This is from Ask Billboard:
Hi,
I can't help but notice that the Backstreet Boys recent hits album
"Chapter 1" has not been certified platinum yet, even though
I know it's sold well over 1 million copies. Why is this? And can you
please tell me how much it has sold to date?
Aaron
~~~~~~~~~~~~ The Reply:
Hello Aaron,
The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certifies gold
and platinum albums after reviewing data for the number of copies that
have been shipped to U.S. retailers. While Billboard charts indicate
what RIAA award a title has received, the magazine does not certify
albums gold or platinum.
A record label applies to the RIAA in order to have a title certified,
and perhaps "The Hits - Chapter One," has slipped through
the cracks at Jive. The album has sold 1.4 million units in the U.S.,
according to Nielsen SoundScan, which measures over the counter sales,
not shipments. Billboard's album charts, such as The Billboard 200
where "The Hits" debuted last November at No. 4, are based
solely on data from Nielsen SoundScan.
Lending
It was difficult to determine who was a bigger fan of whom this week
when Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell worked out with Atlanta Braves
Kevin Millwood, Rafael Furcal, Andruw Jones and Gary Sheffield for a
future segment of MTV's "Rock 'n Jocks." "I got to live
another dream out here today," Littrell told Buzz. "Just the
smell of the ballpark is great." And Littrell keeps up with his
favorite team even while on tour --- with a little help from his wife,
Leighanne. "I have to admit, I had to teach Leighanne how to
watch ESPN's 'SportsCenter' to keep up on the stats for me. She's
actually gotten really good at it."
Timebeat
poised to bring together Lance of NSYNC and Nick Carter of the BSB to
guide company to stardom back
up
Timebeat.com
Enterprises Inc. is pleased to provide this update on the development
of its subsidiary company 2LIVE ENTERTAINMENT. 2LIVE is nearing the
completion of negotiations with "Lance" of NSYNC, one of the
leading singing groups focused on the teenage and young adult market.
Successful completion of these negotiations will result in Lance
joining the management team of 2LIVE. This, coupled with the
successful conclusion of negotiations leading to Nick Carter also
joining the 2LIVE management team, would result in two members of the
music industry's most successful singing groups coming together for
the first time ever. This union has the potential to create excitement
in the music industry unheard of for many years. Collectively, the
Backstreet Boys and NSYNC have an incredible following of some 50
million fans worldwide.
2LIVE is in the process of opening its first fully staffed demo
recording studio in the Orlando, Florida area. Initially, this studio
will be used for promotional purposes, but will soon become an
integral part of the evolving business plan. This business plan will
see 2LIVE create several integrated yet synergistic business units:
recording; marketing; media; merchandising; video and radio
production. In addition, 2LIVE plans to open a super-station recording
studio in the Ft. Lauderdale area in the next 6 to 12 months. Once
completed, this will be the only super-station studio within 700 miles
- from Nashville to South America and has already attracted the
attention of major recording labels.
Based on the discussions at hand, 2LIVE expects to have senior
management in place in the next 2 to 4 weeks. Lamar Young, VP of 2LIVE
commented "With a management team in place that has over 100
years experience managing and producing the likes of BackStreet Boys,
NSYNC, and Latoya Jackson among others, 2LIVE is making great
progress. The technical teams necessary to make the individual
business units a success are in place, leaving the conclusion of
negotiations with Nick and Lance as the final step before we begin the
IPO process."
With Lance and Nick together in one company, the merchandising
potential is enormous. Based on a collective following of 50 million
fans worldwide, music industry marketing professionals believe 2LIVE
has the potential to generate some $300 million in merchandise revenue
in its first year of operations. Even at its early stages of corporate
growth, the company has begun to generate revenues by writing
advertising "jingles" for a number of retail stores. At the
same time, 2LIVE has begun screening demo tapes as part of its mandate
of identifying the next music industry phenomena.
In a related matter, Timebeat expects within the next 3 weeks to
announce both the celebrity spokesperson for the company's much sought
after Dance fragrance line as well as the female celebrity who will
participate in the celebrity date promotion for the company's recently
launched dating website www.secretkiss.net.
Also, Timebeat has been informed the filming of infomercials featuring
the company's Classified fragrance line on the popular "In Motion
with Dan Marino" show produced by Zernon Corporation has
commenced for airing in the fall of 2002.
