Nick
Carter not rowdy
back up
Source: The Philadelphia Inquirer
While some of the high-class stars were hanging in the high-end bars
and clubs, Backstreet Boy Nick Carter took a walk on the mild
side.
The 22-year-old BSBer danced into McGillins Olde Ale House 'round
midnight Friday on the recommendation of a couple of Penn grad
students who are his longtime friends.
He was casual in a white sweat suit and easy with anyone who
approached him, whether for an autograph or a picture. "He
couldn't have been nicer," said one of the group that joined
him. (This hardly seemed like the guy arrested in a Tampa nightclub
for mouthing off to a cop.)
At closing time, some McGillins staffers asked if he would accompany
them to an after-hours club. In the words of one of his hits, he
said, "Yes, I Will" (or words to that effect).
They walked him - and the slight brunette whose hand he was holding
- over to the journalists' Pen & Pencil club, which he also
closed.
We'd tell you more, but the club rule is everything within its walls
is off the record.

Kevin
Richardson, R.E.M. & Live Join New Power Project
back up
Source: Launch.com
By: Darren Davis and Jason Gelman, New York
Backstreet Boy Kevin Richardson along with rockers R.E.M. and Live
are the latest additions to a grassroots
effort to stop the Senate from passing an energy plan that was
passed in the House Of Representatives last year. The New Power
Project, a star-studded pro-environmental organization formed to
help counter President George W. Bush's energy plan, already
includes artists such as the Beastie Boys, Barenaked Ladies, Tom
Petty & the Heartbreakers, Dave Matthews Band, Moby, Trey
Anastasio (of Phish), Jackson Browne, Alanis Morissette, James
Taylor, and others.
"The plan calls for drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife
Refuge and other public lands, weakening the Clean Air Act, and
increasing subsidies to coal and nuclear industries," according
to a statement by the organization. Senate Majority Leader Tom
Daschle (D – S.D.) has proposed an alternative bill that would
prohibit drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge. Daschle's bill also
invests in clean forms of energy and raises fuel-efficiency
standards. The Senate is scheduled to debate the bill this
month.
Richardson said in the statement, "Our country consumes 25
percent of the world's oil and holds less than three percent of the
world's reserves. The House's position on drilling our way out of
dependence on foreign oil is ridiculous. If we are to be truly
self-reliant, let's be leaders and increase our fuel efficiency
instead of violating our natural treasures."
Formed by the Beastie Boys' Mike D, the New Power Project's goal is
to energize public opinion against the Bush plan by way of artist
websites, petitions, and concert tours. The artists urge people to
take action by sending their local Senator a free fax that is
located at saveourenvironment.org.
In related news, Richardson will compete on the March 11 edition of
NBC's celebrity Fear Factor to help raise funds for Just Within
Reach, his own environmental foundation.

Join
Kevin Richardson in pushing for clean energy
back up
Source: SaveOurEnvironment.org
Dear Friend,
Please join us in stopping a reckless energy plan from passing the
Senate. Instead of solving the challenges posed by America's demand
for energy, this shortsighted plan proposes that we develop some of
the last pristine wilderness left in America, the Arctic National
Wildlife Refuge. We can't let this happen. We're beginning our
actions on February 11th, and we won't stop until a real energy bill
is passed. Please join us in taking action now by sending your
Senator a free fax at http://www.saveourenvironment.org/kevin
This dangerous energy plan has already been passed by the House of
Representatives, and was written with the help of oil industry
lobbyists. The Senate is our last line of defense. If we don't act
now, our world will be forever changed.
There are alternatives. Senate Majority Leader Daschle will
introduce an energy bill that would jump start investment in clean
electricity. This bill will include a "renewable portfolio
standard," which would require utilities by 2020 to increase by
10 percent the electricity generated by wind, solar, and other forms
of renewable power. In fact, many scientists believe that it is
technologically and economically feasible to reach a 20 percent
increase by 2020. And by raising the fuel economy standards for new
cars, SUVs, and trucks to 40 mpg, we would save 4 million barrels of
oil a day by 2020 - more oil than we import from the Persian Gulf
each day and could expect to get from drilling in the Arctic
National Wildlife Refuge, combined!
We need your help - now -- in convincing the Senate to protect the
Arctic National Wildlife Refuge and support a real energy plan.
Please forward this email to your friends, and go to http://www.saveourenvironment.org/kevin.
Sincerely,
Kevin Richardson

Carter: Before The 'Boys' 1989-1993

Nick Carter: Before The 'Boys' 1989-1993 Features the Heartthrob
Superstar's Earliest Recordings Widely Released for the First
Time.....
...Before he was one of the biggest teen pop star pin-ups on the
planet, before the Backstreet Boys sold a zillion records, and
before being named one of People magazine's "50 Most Beautiful
People In The World," Nick Carter was a very talented kid with
a dream.
Nick Carter: Before The "Boys" 1989-1993 (Hip-O Records),
released March 26, 2002, gathers the best of Carter's early efforts,
the recordings that eventually helped him land a gig in one of the
world's top singing groups. For Boys fans everywhere, Nick Carter:
Before The "Boys" 1989-1993 is that special album that
captures the innocence and promise of one of their favorite stars,
the youngest of the Backstreet Boys and perhaps its most popular
member. Previously available only regionally or by mail, Nick
Carter: Before The "Boys" 1989-1993 now makes its debut on
record shelves across the country.
The album's 14 selections are the first professional recordings
featuring Nickolas Gene Carter. Produced in the Orlando, Florida
studio of Mark Dye, Carter's producer and vocal teacher from
1989-1993, they span Nick's progress from the age of nine to 13, a
period which culminated with him singing at Tampa Bay Buccaneers
halftime shows and the Florida State Fair. Two of the songs were
written especially for Nick by Dye: "Summer!" (the first
time Carter ever sang four-part harmony, and all of the parts are
him!) and "Hard To Get." Yet another landmark is his
recording of "The Star Spangled Banner," the first time he
ever recorded a song solo (at age 12).
The remaining selections run the gamut from pop standards to the
patriotic: "Love Is A Wonderful Thing," "More Today
Than Yesterday," "Rhythm Of My Heart," "Runaround
Sue," "Lights," "Breaking Up Is Hard To
Do," "Jailhouse Rock," "God Bless The
U.S.A.," "Uptown Girl," "Rockin' Around The
Christmas Tree" and a medley of "Just A
Gigolo"/"I Ain't Got Nobody."
Born January 28, 1980, in Jamestown, New York, the oldest of five
siblings (Ginger, BJ, Leslie, Angel and Aaron), Carter was groomed
for success at an early age. In the fourth grade, with the family
now living in Orlando, he debuted on stage as Raoul in a school
production of "Phantom Of The Opera." He was barely a
teenager when he joined Kevin Richardson, Brian Littrell, AJ McLean
and Howie Dorough in the Backstreet Boys. The group broke through in
1995 in Europe; three years later in the U.S., and became a bona
fide phenomenon.
For Nick Carter and his fans, where it all began can be heard on
Nick Carter: Before The "Boys" 1989-1993.
