Nick Carter wants to prove he's more than just a pretty boy pop
singer. The youngest member of the Backstreet Boys has been recording
his first solo album, scheduled for release in October, on which he
plays the drums.
``I'm trying to put my rock influence in, big time,'' Carter told
Teen People for its September issue.
``A lot of rock nowadays, you know, everybody's digging Linkin Park
and all that stuff, but I want to bring more of a pop essence to the
rock, but still keep it from being corny. I'm definitely pushing the
envelope.''
But the 22-year-old admits he also likes some adult contemporary
music, like Journey and Bryan Adams.
``When I grew up, my mom and dad always played that music around the
house, so it's probably a parental thing,'' he said. ``I don't know
if I'm an old soul, but I like history. I like old stuff.''

The Backstreet Boys will pay a visit to Elwood City in the PBS Kids
animated series Arthur at 8 p.m. ET on September 1.
Beginning August 19, the
Arthur website will feature all new Backstreet Boys
themed content, including music video clips of the group in the
prime-time television special, lyrics from the show's two original
songs, and exclusive pages to print and color. In addition, a
printable version of the Arthur "It's Only Rock 'N' Roll"
promotional poster will be available on the site.
The theme song for the show--which is about the world's most famous
aardvark--is sung by Ziggy Marley & the Melody Makers.
Arthur wants to be in on the action when Francine decides to form a
rock band that will be "a million times better than the
Backstreet Boys." But Arthur doesn't make it through auditions,
and Francine chooses Molly, Binky, Fern, and Mrs. MacGrady instead.
Then the Backstreet Boys come to Elwood City and change
everything! Title: Arthur, It's Only Rock 'n' Roll Author: Marc Tolon Brown Reading level: Ages 4-8 (+ hardcore BSB fans!) Edition: Hardcover - 32 pages
Usually ships in 24 hours About the Author: Marc Brown is the author and illustrator of
the Arthur Adventure series and D.W. titles. The PBS children's
television series Arthur is the number one ranking show for
two-through -eleven-year olds. He lives with his family in Hingham,
Massachusetts, and on Martha's Vineyard. Review by George Buttner from Dayton, Ohio United States:
It's
the popular children's series, "Arthur," and here
come the Backstreet Boys. Uh oh. What's going on? The
Backstreet Boys? Arthur's sold out, right? What better way
to pander to today's audience, eh?
The thing is, selling out, or rather, not selling out, is
actually an important theme of this book. When Francine
finds her friend Muffy Crosswire watching the Backstreet
Boys, she calls them "sellouts," saying that
they're only interested in money. She then creates her own
band, based on the theme of not selling out. Things,
however, begin to fall apart when Francine begins to suspect
her band members of only being in it for the money. Then,
the Backstreet Boys come and teach everybody a lesson about
the appreciation of music.
So, it would seem that the book version of the Backstreet
Boys "Arthur" special does not overdose on
the
Backstreet
Boys, featuring them mainly towards the end of the story. The
illustrations are of the same brilliant, vibrant quality I've come
to expect from the Arthur series and are pleasant to look at just in
themselves. This book is definitely recommended...
