Nick
interview on the cover of Brazilian magazine "Capricho"
back up
Source: "Capricho" Magazine
C: Before talking about your record, let's talk about the Backstreet
Boys. There's a rumor all over the Internet saying that you and
Brian had an argument because he wants you to choose between the
group and your solo career. Is that true?
N: I heard about that, but I don't know where it came from. The last
time I talked to Brian, everything was alright. There wasn't any
kind of threatening for me to leave the group, like I heard.
C: And if this happened, what would you do?
N: Oh, God...I don't know. this would never happen. As far as I
know, they're happy for me, for my solo career.
C: Is that true that the Backstreet album is half recorded, as is
around the net?
N: No, it's a lie. We didn't even started recording it. We didn't
even decided which songs will be on it.
C: And when are you going to start recording?
N: I don't know. I guess this year, but there's nothing decided yet.
My priority now is my cd and they know this very well.
C: How was your routine on these last months?
N: I was locked on a studio, basically, since February. When I left
it, I started talking to people about it, to promote the cd. I was
focusing on my solo CD. I met the guys, we talked, but I was only
thinking about my CD.
C: When you started recording your CD, how many songs did you have?
N: I guess around 35.
C: Who wrote them?
N: Most of them, I wrote by myself. I had some help from other
authors, but most of them are mine.
C: How was it to make it all alone?
N: It was very different, because since here, I only worked in
group. I had a lot of fun and I could really express what I wanted.
I put a lot out. when you're 14 or 15, the age I was when the BSB
blow up and you're in the middle of other people, you don't say what
you think. I didn't even have time to stop to talk about what I was
thinking. During many years it was like this and I didn't care. But
then, after the last tour, I started to feel bad, even with myself,
you know? I wasn't happy, everything was going wrong. We weren't
thinking about music anymore.
C: Was the group turning into a business? Were you more business men
than singers? Was this that was bothering you?
N: Yes. we gave up of being young, to entertain people and have fun
and decided to turn into business men. The thing grown too much and
we didn't have time to what really mattered. When I entered the
studio to record my album I realized: that's what I wanna do, be a
musician, write songs. The rest doesn't matter. I'm very happy. I'm
the old Nick again, the one I used to be.
C: Were you so unhappy on the Backstreet Boys?
N: The things were worse after AJ's problem (the singer went to
rehab in July last year due to alcohol abuse). Sincerely, I was
going the same way. I was drinking too much.
C: People always criticized the boy bands because they just sung
what people wrote and didn't get involved on the composition of the
songs they were singing. The group always said that with you was
different, that you did get involved with the production. As well
you're saying, it wasn't like that....were you doing what people
wanted you to do?
N: More or less. The thing isn't this or that. On a group even when
you get involved, there are times when you don't say what you wanna
say.
C: I just heard 7 tracks from your cd and the lyrics are revealing,
as finally you were free to say what you never said before...
N: They're really revealing. Everything you're going to hear is the
true, because my lyrics are about things I'm really feeling,
experiences that I really had. I talk about things a very young guy
passes, on a industry like the showbiz. The plan was really to
reveal how were these years with the Backstreet Boys, tell how I was
really feeling. This is going to be the cool of all of this. Say
what was locked in my heart was really good, it brought back my
self-esteem, made me feel the old Nick, after too much money, too
much success, to much bullshit. Now I don't mind writing a song and
nobody like, or if the cd doesn't sell. I don't mind what people
will think.
C: The album is called Now or Never. What made you realize that now
it was time?
N: Something here inside was telling me, it was instinct. I guess if
didn't take the chance and risk, I wouldn't have another chance.
C: The was the group was conducting the career the last years
influenced you?
N: A lot. I wasn't happy.
C: What did you listen when you were writing songs to your CD?
N: I listened what I always liked to listen, I never hide I was a
rock fan. When I was with the Backstreet Boys, I used to play on a
small rock band. Nobody knew this, but I was the drummer. I love
Bryan Adams, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Sound-garden, Nirvana,
Pearl Jam.
C: On this CD you decided to put more rock. Don't you think people
will talk a lot about a Backstreet Boy singing rock?
N: It isn't exactly rock, it's pop-rock. But I know people will talk
a lot. But I don't mind. As I said, even if people don't like it,
everything is ok. If only one person likes it and buy the Cd, I'll
be happy.
C: I guess more than one person will buy it, Nick.
N: Yeah, I guess a bit more (laughs). But I swear I don't wanna
break any record, stay on top.
C: N'Sync decided to take official vacations for the solo projects
of their members and Justin Timberlake is also going to release a
solo CD. Did you ask for vacations?
N: On the group, the vacations weren't officials, but they happened.
We're a long time without making shows, without recording anything.
I had plenty of time to work as I wanted on this CD. If things
hadn't decelerated, if I hadn't recorded my Cd, I was going to end
exactly like AJ did. I was going on a wrong way, I didn't know who I
were, got it? After so many years, I was being a character, and was
tied to it. The feeling was that I had lost my soul in one if the
countries I visited.
C: AJ going to rehab, did it alert you?
N: No, not even this. I went ahead drinking and drinking. It was
even worse because I was 21 and legally could drink. And lived my
life in parties.
C: What made you wake up? You being arrested?
N: No, that situation was different. It was unfair because
everything I said was that I didn't need to leave the place, that I
wasn't doing anything wrong. I knew my rights, but the guy knew who
were I since the beginning and said: "Nick Carter, you're
arrested". Only then I saw he was a cop. But it's ok, I didn't
get upset. Instead, I wrote a song, Forever Rebel.
C: And how's the situation now?
N: Well, we had an agreement and I'm doing social works. I had to
visit a hospital. I sang to some children during some days and it
was a great experience. In the end I was glad everything happened.
C: Have you ever denied you're Nick Carter?
N: Yeah, it happened. I like to get attention, I won't lie, but
sometimes I want people to see me as a normal person. To be exposed
the whole time is terrible.
C: So, the experience in Rio was terrifying?
N: On that time we just spent some hours in Rio, during the release
of our album, it was very terrifying. It was a lot of girls crying,
screaming, taking their hairs off. But we had a lot of fun too.
C: Talking about Brazil, there was a rumor that, after you went
there, you were dating a brazilian girl that lives in the USA. Did
you really date?
N: Not that I remember. (laughs)
C: I saw you and Sue Bird (basketball player) together on the E!
channel, on the ESPY awards. How long are you dating?
N: We're not dating. She invited me to go with her and I went. I
loved because I was never with a girl on this kind of situation,
even in graduation parties.
C: But she knew even where your suit was bought. This is a thing
girlfriends know....
N: Girls are always more into this. I swear, I'm without a
girlfriend for more than a year.
C: Once you said the essential on a girl is that she has to know
what she wants, be the independent one. Why?
N: Because we're not around the whole time. If her life is around my
life, if her happiness depends only on the moments she stays with
me, it's hard. I need a girl with a head on the shoulder, that can
handle all of this.
C: Would you date someone as famous as you?
N: I can't say I wouldn't. If I fell in love, yes. but only if the
girl didn't let the success overtop. Till here it never happened.
C: Once you said Britney Spears was beautiful and said it was sad
that Justin arrived first. The two of them are not together anymore,
so the road is clear.... (laughs)
N: (laughs) I'm gonna blush.
C: Some lyrics from Now or Never are romantic. Are you that romantic
in your relationships?
N: For real? Not much. I don't remember doing anything crazy for a
girl.
C: I read on the internet once you went out with two girls in one
night. Is that true?
N: Two? I don't remember, but I think it's hard. Not on the same
night.
C: If you were a girl, would you date Nick Carter?
N: It's a hard question, specially because I don't picture myself as
a girl. But I guess I wouldn't.
C: Why?
N: I don't know how to explain, but I wouldn't.
C: If you fell in love for a girl and your family didn't like her,
would you care their opinion?
N: Their opinion is very important to me, I always consider what
they say because they know me better than anyone.
Now Or Never: what to expect from Nick's CD.
When we met Nick in the end of July, the Cd wasn't already ready. We
heard only 7 tracks. But they were a good piece of what's coming.
Even with the rumors on the internet that the album is very rock,
it's good not to count on nothing hard: the album is pop rock, as
Nick defines it. Some songs remember Bon Jovi's ballads. What calls
more attention are the lyrics, that sound like a relief from Nick.
"Everybody has to be someone they don't wanna be in reality. I
just wanna be free.", he says in Forever Rebel. Em I Stand For
You, he sings: "Now I'm free to say what I wanna say". And
on the ballad Do I Have To Cry For You, sings: "Tell me what I
have to be, tell me what I have to do, but I can't live exactly the
way you want me to live". Most of the songs talk about
relationships, as if Nick was having a argument with a girl. But
there's always another interpretation: Nick was unhappy on the
Backstreet Boys because he had to be someone he didn't want to be,
to say what he didn't think. Now or Never was supposed to arrive on
stores on the beginning of October, but the release was postponed to
the end of the month because Nick got a new song and fell in love
with it, recorded it and it's going to be the first single.

Solo
success

DUELING boy-banders - Justin Timberlake of *NSYNC and Nick Carter of
the Backstreet Boys - are releasing their albums this fall, but
Timberlake's is said to be the better bet. "Justin's new album,
'Justified,' is amazing," said one industry insider. "He
is going to be huge." MTV thinks so, too, and has booked
Timberlake to perform his single - said to be an ode to
ex-girlfriend Britney Spears - on Aug. 29's Music Video Awards.
Meanwhile, Carter's "Now or Never" is said to be such a
disappointment, his label Jive almost didn't release it. Carter is
set to present - not perform - at the Sept. 9 Latin Grammy's. A Jive
rep said, "We are behind Nick 100 percent. He's doing his video
for 'Help Me' next week, and we fully support him."

Psychic
Edward Syndie changes channel to celeb readings

By: Steve Brennan
Psychic John Edward is looking to the future as his successful
syndicated TV show undergoes some core changes for next season,
including a new focus on celebrities -- living celebrities, that is.
The syndicated strip "Crossing Over With John Edward"
debuted in the fall as the top-rated new show in syndication as
audiences responded to the quirky format that sees Edward
communicating with dead relatives of studio audience members and
passing on messages from beyond the grave.
Universal Domestic Television is now looking to make some changes to
the series for next season, including the addition of celebrity
readings in which Edward will conduct at-home group readings with
well-known personalities, their families and friends.
A.J. McLean and Brian Littrell of Backstreet Boys, Coolio and Jenny
McCarthy already have sat down with Edward to tape segments for the
new season, and many more celebrity sessions are planned, UDT has
announced.
The series originated on Sci Fi Channel before migrating to
syndication for a dual broadcast/cable run as part of a synergistic
move by UDT this season. In the coming season, "Crossing
Over" will keep airing at 11 and 11:30 p.m. Sunday-Thursday on
Sci Fi. But in a switch from last season, the show will now air
first in broadcast syndication and later on Sci Fi, allowing the
program to reach two distinct audiences available at different times
of day.
There also will be several new production elements, including more
story updates from previous shows and additional on-location
episodes and segments as Edward and the crew take the show on the
road.

Carter Interview - Sept Issue of CD:UK Magazine
back up
Source: CD:UK Mag
The world's changed for BSB Nick Carter. Well, that's if he still
IS a BSB...
The first time your CD:UK reporter met Nick was when he was 15
years old! BSB hadn't even released a single yet.
Soon the quiet kid travelled all over the world . A tutor taught his
high-school studies backstage at sold-out shows. He called grown-ups
"Ma'am" and "Sir", scoffed burgers and got
oh-so-shy if someone talked about girls.
Seven years later, 65 million albums and millions of dollars later,
Nick sitting on a sofa in an LA hotel, set to release a solo single,
BSB's are 'on a break'. Now he's out on his own, and he knows it.
Nick! Welcome back!
Thank you. It's good to be back.
How do you feel?
I'm very excited. I was really nervous before..yeah (grins
bashfully) and I guess I'm still really nervous.
Does it feel
odd doing interview by yourself?
It's weird for me. I'm used t having other guys beside
me, all talking. Sometimes I wouldn't have to say anything
at all. I could just sit and listen. Now its like..
(searches over each shoulder and shrugs).
You don't have that choice any more?
I have no choice. I have to answer the difficult
questions now! |

|
How
do you feel about your solo project? If excitement was more than
a word, then I could tell you how I feel! I dunno how I can describe
it. It's like I'm jumping out of plane with no parachute on.
