Source: Kenny and Footy In The Morning
Kenny: On the phone with us, the legend himself. Ladies and
gentlemen give it up for Nick Carter.
Nick: A legend?
Kenny: I was trying to give you the whole big deal there,
Nick.
(Nick laughs)
Kenny: You know, I didn't know what else to say cause you're a
legend. You're the Backstreet Boys legend.
Nick: It'll take me a while to go before I'm a legend but...(laughs
again)
Kenny: Well, you're a legend.
Nick: I appreciate that.
Kenny: Listen, before we start on the song and all the stuff we're
doing. Your new song. Your new career. I need to ask you a question.
Footy and I wanna know, I don't want to put you on the spot or
anything but what do you say you come over here sometime to our
station, to our place we take you downstairs to that big studio, to
the theater we had. We bring in some listeners and have a little
party. You can do a little question & answer thing. You up for
something like that?
Nick: Yeah, you know what, I'll tell you what. I'm gonna do
this...I'm gonna change my schedule around and I'm gonna come there
towards the end of this week.
Kenny: This week? This very week!
Footy: Really?
Kenny: You are the man! You are the man!
Footy: Now that we got you in the mood, can you come to my house
Wednesday night?
Kenny: Yeah Nick, while you're in the mood, do you have any money
that I can borrow from you? No seriously, I'm talking about inviting
listeners in and hanging out with you. Doing a question & answer
thing. You cool with that?
Nick: Yeah man, I'm down.
Kenny: You're not gonna blow us off now?
Nick: Nope. Not at all.
Kenny: Alright.
Nick: I live down there in that area.
Kenny: I know, you're down in the keys all the time, right?
Nick: Yeah, that's where I live so...
Kenny: Where is your place? Cuz I know Footy always sees your boat
around when he's boating.
Footy: Yeah, I was going by and saw you when you were in the ground
there by the bridge...
Nick: Nooo! (laughing)
Kenny: Where are you? Island of Marada?
Nick: No, I live in Marathon.
Kenny: Marathon...Oh man that's sweet. Wouldn't you love to have a
place in the keys?
Footy: How's the boat racing going?
Nick: It's good. We're number one in our class.
Footy: Oh really?
Nick: Yeah, I mean, we're smoking them. It's good. We're doing
incredible. We're going to be doing the world championships towards
the end of this year.
Footy: In key west?
Nick: In key west.
Footy: That's a rough race, man.
Nick: It's gonna be tough because that's when everybody comes out.
You know, they want to compete. We're starting to make a lot of
enemies cause we're doing so well.
Kenny: Good for you! You do that with your dad?
Nick: Yeah, I pretty much own the team right now. So yeah, my dad
and me, we do it. We're probably gonna get into, ya know, a little
further next year. Possibly get into a bigger boat and you know,
expand a little more because it's really fun. It's a lot of
fun.
Footy: So your dad drives it and you navigate it? Do you actually go
on the boat?
Nick: Well, actually no. You see, I can't do it at the moment
because I'm always on the road and stuff like that. Right now, ya
know? But right now I just got some real good drivers who are
driving the boat, for now.
Kenny: What's the deal with you? You got all this money. You're this
good looking guy. Everything you do is a hit. You race boats as fast
as you want and I hear from people in the business that the success
has not gone to your head. You're as cool today as you were when you
started. What's up with that?
Nick: Dude, I'm just, I don't take things for granted. I'm very
happy where I'm at and I'm very fortunate to be where I'm at, ya
know? A lot of people wish they can be in this position and the last
thing I can do is take it for granted.
Kenny: I would take it for granted. I would take it for so granted.
I would not even talk to Footy. I wouldn't even pay attention to
him. You guys forget it! I'd be so out of here. Excuse me, I'm busy,
you know what I mean? We can't even imagine what's going on with
you. But now, we broke the solo record on Friday afternoon, our
buddy Chris Marino on the afternoon played it. The phones have been
ringing all weekend long. Tell us about this song.
Nick: Thanks for playing it, dude. And second of all, this song
itself is just ... we had a tough time picking the first single
because I had done like 37 songs. I recorded 37 songs and I went
over back to Sweden and recorded songs with Max Martin and stuff
like that but the song itself is different than the whole Backstreet
thing. It's what I've been wanting to do. It has a little bit of a
rock flavor to it, which is what the whole record has too. So, it's
different. It's cool. It's new. It's fresh.
Kenny: And it's you.
Nick: It's me.
Kenny: We're joined by Nick Carter of the Backstreet Boys this
morning. So let me ask you this, Nick. You hear all the rumors about
you and the Backstreet Boys, about the break up of you guys. We're
one of the radio stations, early on, we heard the rumors. You know
as well as we do, we got a lot of friends in Hollywood and people
around the country who talk to us and we get the scoop early on a
lot of things here on Y100 but once and for all from your mouth, can
you tell us what's going on?
Nick: Well, ya know, The thing is right now I've been in the middle
of doing my thing and kinda really, really concentrating on making
an incredible record for myself because I wanted to come off real
hard hitting at first. But what's happen is, ya know the other guys
are...AJ is about to get married and stuff and a lot of the guys are
doing stuff with their wives and everything. But I got on the phone
with Howie the other day and we were just kicking it and talking
about when we were going to get that album together and everything,
for the next Backstreet album. That'll probably happen like next
year, early next year sometime that we'll start recording.
Kenny: So there is no break up of the Backstreet Boys?
Nick: No, not at all. I'm doing my thing and some of the other guys
are doing their thing too. But, we're cool and everything.
Kenny: I hear that about you guys and you know we all have great
relations We met you a long time ago when you guys started out and
all that. And we really appreciate the love and that you're giving
us a song and calling in today. You know, we really are happy for
you guys and the success of the Backstreet Boys. But we heard these
rumors that you're breaking up. So it's not so much a break up but
it's that you guys each want to try out some stuff on your own but
you're still Backstreet Boys.
Nick: Oh yeah, of course. No matter what, I'm always going to be a
Backstreet Boy. And so will everybody else. That's the one thing is
that, the love of the group since we've been together for ten years,
we can try things and no matter what happens, we're always going to
love eachother. I grew up with thouse guys since I was 12 years old
so, they're family to me.
Kenny: Well listen, I love my wife, I really do. My wife is
wonderful but when I'm around her day and night there are moments
when we just want to kill eachother. So here you are, with all these
guys, on the road, in busses, on airplanes, how do you guys keep
from just taking a swing at eachother?
Nick: Well, (laughs), it happens.
Kenny: It does?
Nick: Things happen like that but I think that's partially the
reason why we're kinda taking a little time right now because we
have been around eachother for the past seven years straight.
Kenny: Wow.
Footy So who took a swing at who?
Kenny: Yeah, give us the low down, Nick.
Nick: Let me put it this way, I was young and very
temperamental.
Kenny: So it happens. You guys get together and get a little hot
tempered from time to time and It's cool.
Nick: Just imagine what it's like if you're around your sisters and
brothers for a long time.
Kenny: Got you. Where are you right now?
Nick: I am in San Francisco.
Kenny: What? Some fu-fu hotel? You got the big presidential
suite?
Nick: Hell no!
Kenny: Come on, we're friends, you can tell us!
Nick: No, dude. I'm in like this little room cause it's a temporary
hotel. I've just been stopping and doing some things.
Kenny: Wait a minute, It's 5 o'clock in the morning for you?
Nick: It's like...yeah its 5:19.
Kenny: And you called us up in the morning? Ladies and gentlemen,
Nick Carter! Come on who's cooler than you? (clapping)
Nick: You guys!
Kenny: Wow, that's really unbelievable. Well, listen, we won't keep
you much longer. I know you need your beauty sleep. Can't take it
up. And we're so excited about this new song. Why don't you do me a
favor after we finish up with you, I'm going to put you on hold and
you can yack with Froggy. And you're serious about coming to visit
here and having our listeners join you?
Nick: Yeah, I'll be there at the end of the week.
Kenny: Oh we would love to do that. I'm so excited about that. Nick
Carter from the Backstreet Boys, everybody! And before you go Nick,
do me a favor. Introduce 'Help Me', will you? Right now, live on the
radio.
Nick: I'd love to. This is uh, this is my new single. The album is
gonna come out around October 29th. I'm really happy. I'm proud of
it. I'm so excited for everybody to hear some stuff from me and this
is 'Help Me'. Hope you enjoy it.
Kenny: Alright, thanks a lot, Nick Carter. We love you! 8:20, Kenny
and Footy in the morning. Y100.
(song plays)
-- By the way, the whole Q&A takes place on Friday the 23rd at
8:00am on Y100 (South Florida). You had to win tickets but they're
still broadcasting it live. --

Nick Carter - He's Back
back up
Source: Kiwibox
He’s the 22 year old blonde babe from the Backstreet Boys, and
Nick Carter is about to take a shot at a solo career. Don’t worry
though; he’s not leaving the Backstreet Boys! He has made it very
clear that his solo project is just something that he’s wanted to
do for a long time, and it won’t affect the group in any way. Nick
has been influenced by rock in many ways. He said that his album is
going to have a rock vibe to it, but it will still have that pop
flavor to it.
So what will Nick Carter sound like doing rock? It will be something
different, and it will probably bring in a whole new fan base for
Backstreet. With his album slated for a release in early October,
the wait is on to hear what Nick has been working on.
Nick has also been working on the Backstreet Boys fourth American
album recently. The still untitled album is set to be released
before the end of 2002, and it will be followed by a tour of smaller
venues in 2003. Speaking of touring, Nick Carter is thinking of
possibly touring to promote his album, currently titled Now or
Never, but noting in for sure yet. This summer, Nick has been
touring with his brother Aaron, age 14, doing radio shows. Nick said
that his on stage persona would be totally different as a solo
artist, because there are certain limits to things that you can do
as a Backstreet Boy. I can imagine that he would put on an amazing
show!
When October rolls around, be sure to pick up Nick Carter’s Now or
Never, and check out his new sound. This album isn’t only for fans
of pop, but it’s for fans of punk and rock as well. Give it a
chance, and I’m sure you won’t regret it.

Howie
aims to develop New Smyrna Beach Condo
back up
Source: Daytona
Beach News Journal
NEW SMYRNA BEACH -- Backstreet Boy Howie Dorough hopes to win the
hearts of condo shoppers here, resuscitating the former
Mediterranean project.
Condominium development has become a family business for Dorough and
his siblings, John Dorough and Angela Herring, said Jim Wichlacz of
Central Florida Realty, which is marketing the 19-unit condo
building at 2200 N. Atlantic Ave.
The Doroughs paid Daytona Beach investor Albert Segev $1.02 million
for the oceanfront building site.
A previous attempt to develop a condo at the site failed, but
Wichlacz said many of the features and much of the original design
will be kept. Construction on the eight-story building is expected
to begin around the end of the year -- but the city must still give
the project final approval.
The condos will be priced from $399,000 to the mid-$600,000s.

The
Risks and Rewards of Going Solo
back up
Source: Katrillion
By: Valerie Nome
Britney Spears broke out of girl group Innosense and achieved
massive success on her own. Pink busted out on her own from girl
group Choice and became a superstar.
But these days, it's artists such as Backstreet Boys' Nick Carter, *NSYNC's
Justin Timberlake, 98 Degrees' Nick Lachey and Destiny's Child
members Beyonce Knowles, Kelly Rowland and Michelle Williams who are
making headlines by breaking away from the groups that made them
famous.
"They may signify the end of an era," Whitney Matheson,
USAToday.com's Pop Candy columnist said. "I don't think the boy
bands are going to be the same after the solo albums come out.
Destiny's Child, however, may go on, especially since they're a bit
younger than the others."
Of course, they're all taking a risk. Those stretching out solo may
alienate their fellow group members, as evidenced by rumors that
Backstreet Boy Brian Littrell attempted to give Carter the choice
between the group or single-name fame. In a recent interview with *NSYNC,
Timberlake deflected questions about his solo career in order to
keep the focus on the group.
But even if group members are supportive of the solo option, fans
may lose interest in the group, as seen with the five Spice Girls,
who each released solo albums following the departure of Geri
Halliwell. The Spice Girls' last album, "Forever," proved
to be their last. Now Mel C., aka Sporty Spice, is the only star
with a record deal.
Even though Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, 98 Degrees and Destiny's Child
haven't officially broken up, their members have been called upon to
fend off rumors.
"We're not breaking up," Carter told Katrillion.
"Everybody's all like worried -- 'Nick's doing this and the
Backstreet Boys are over' -- and all this stuff. I mean, you know,
I've been in the group for 10 years, since I was 12, and so I mean,
I'm 22 and I really (want to) try something new. That's basically
what I'm doing. Sometimes you can't make everybody happy; that's the
one thing I've learned in life. The guys are supporting me, so
that's good."
According to nearly 1,500 Katrillion readers who responded in our
recent voting booth, "Who Will Make the Best Solo
Superstar?," Carter and the Backstreet Boys are in great shape
when it comes to solo careers. There is significantly more interest
in both Carter's solo career and the Backstreet Boys than there is
in the solo projects of *NSYNC, Destiny's Child and 98 Degrees.
If these artists do succeed, their futures may be even brighter than
their pasts. Stars such as Take That's Robbie Williams, Genesis'
Phil Collins and Wham's George Michael achieved greater success
alone than as members of the groups that made them famous.
"It's different because a lot of things (have to) come from my
mind," Carter said. "Videos, concepts, all these things.
But that's also cool because the fans get to see a side of me that
I've been holding in for a long time."
Though it will be more work to go it alone, artists going solo are
willing to put themselves -- and their careers -- on the line.
"The best advice to be a solo artist is stay focused on what
you're doing," Aaron Carter, Nick's brother, told Katrillion.
"Don't let other distractions take you off of what you're
doing. Like when you're onstage, for instance, girls are a very big
distraction. Take your time, always take your time. It's a lot
harder being a solo artist than it is, for instance, being in a boy
group, because you don't take turns with lines and stuff. I mean, I
have to sing the whole song and dance at the same time. And I have
to keep on doing it over and over again. You're gonna learn."
