Reviews
This
page is for anyone who has been to a concert ever. It doesn't matter if
it was years ago, if you've been, I want to hear about it!
Please
e-mail you're experiences to me!
To
start off I have written a review and my experience that I had at the
Backstreet Boys June 10th Concert in the MEN Arena in 1999 as part of
their 'Into the Millennium Tour'.
My
BSB Encounter
I
have never actually met the BSB in the flesh before, one on one, but I
have seen them about 10 metres away! This happened when I went to their
June 10th concert in the Manchester Evening News Arena in
1999, as part of their ‘Into the Millenium Tour’. I was 17 then, and
had never been to any kind of concert before, and so I was already
excited. However, because it was a BSB concert, it was even more
mind-blowing. I was
soooo amazed that I had even managed to get the tickets, because I had
heard so many stories where ticket lines had been so jammed they had
failed, and where 50,000 tickets had sold-out in say one hour, making it
a record!
To get the tickets, I
had made sure I was well ready before the lines opened. In the UK the
lines opened at 8am. It was also a school day, but I didn’t care, I
had to get those tickets! I
had spent the last two years waiting for the BSB to come to the UK for a
tour, so I could have the chance to get to see them.
Everything I had longed for would either be confirmed or lost in
the next few minutes!
So,
when it turned 8am, I had the phone in my hand, and I dialed the number
as quickly as I could. It rang a couple of times, and then someone
picked it up. I was through…I couldn’t believe it. I was so lucky!
I bought my 4 tickets, one for me, my older sister and two of my
friends. When I finished, I was ecstatic, but then I realised I had
weeks to wait until THE DAY.

On
the day of the concert I had to get up early and travel 30 miles to the
train station, where I had to catch a train to Manchester about 200
miles away from me, which was about 2 and a half hours journey. There I
was to meet my friends, and we would get ready for the concert. As I
arrived in Manchester, I felt so happy. I thought:
“I am in the same
city as the BSB!”
In the evening, we made
our way to the concert, and there was so any people waiting outside the
doors. They were mainly young girls, but I did also see some mature
women, as well as dads and boyfriends. I bought my concert book and
looked eagerly at the pictures. I would be seeing them real soon!
Suddenly, the door
opened and everybody started screaming and pushing for the doors. I lost
sight of my friends momentarily, but waited for them inside the doors.
It’s a good thing I gave them their tickets!
We got in at 7pm, and
started to find our seats. We went up the corridor to the Arena, and we
were right at the top, looking down on thousands of seats. It was huge!
We asked some
attendants nearby, and showed them our tickets. They pointed us downs
the steps, towards the set in the centre of the Arena. What happened
next, is still a blur! We kept on walking, past row, by row, and down
step by step, until we found our seats. I couldn’t believe it! We were
on the 7th row, about 10 metres away from the circular
stage!!
My
heart began to pound as I realised how close I was. I would be able to
see every detail where I was!! We waited (impatiently I might add) for
about one and a half hours, it seemed longer, watching the opening acts.
As it went silent, and
everyone anticipated the BSB coming out, it proved too long for a couple
of girls nearby, that started screaming. This caused the whole Arena to
break out in a crescendo of high-pitched screaming, because everyone
thought the Boys had arrived!! I have to admit, I did get up on my seat
to see if I could see them anywhere as well!
Then suddenly it went
dark and silent again, and suddenly smoke started billowing out from
this tent-like area, and spotlights came on and lit it up. The ‘Star
Wars’ music started up and out from this tent, came Howie, AJ, Nick,
Kevin and Brian, on their flying surf boards!! My mouth went dry, and I
think it literally dropped open, as I stared, eyes nearly popping out of
my head!! I was seeing the BSB in the flesh! As soon as this happened,
the loudest, most ear-piercing screaming erupted, which completely
caught me off guard! I am
normally a quiet person, but I was completely caught up in the
experience of it all, and unaware or myself, I started screaming. I was
having the time of my life! When the boys landed on the stage, I could
see every detail of their faces and their cool outfits. They looked as
gorgeous as ever, exactly like I had seen them on TV time and time
again.
My most memorable
moments of the concert, were when, two girls in front of me had been
screaming Brian’s name, as he spent a lot his time on our part of the
stage. They had a board saying ‘I love Nick’ or something like that,
I was also screaming for Brian to look at me. Then he waved and pointed
to these two girls, which immediately broke down into even louder
screaming and crying, but he missed me!
I was a little upset, but it didn’t deter my spirit.
I can also remember him
picking up loads of stuffed cuddly toys, mostly bears, and also messing
around with an inflatable alien, which someone had thrown on the stage.
It had written on its belly: “I’ve been to a BSB concert.” Brian
picked it up and starting walking around the stage arm and arm with it,
it was so funny! Later he
also picked up a big inflatable beach ball, which he started to spin on
his finger.
I also remember Nick a
bit a way from me, tipping a bottle of water over his head and throwing
it into the crowd, and when Kevin was on his suspended wire, fully
vertical, trying to touch the fans hands, which were reaching up toward
him.
Unfortunately I was in
the part with no one was over me, however I had Howie, to my left and
Brian to my right. That was
definitely one of the best parts of the concert, watching all the fans
faces, trying to reach them, and each of the guys doing somersaults!
I managed to get quite
a few good photos, of the stage and the Boys. I have given you my
favourites, of when the boys flew in on their surfboards and of them
performing high up on the extended part of the stage.
My
Pictures from the Encounter
When
I wasn't screaming my head off I managed to take some good
pictures.
Don't
adjust anything on your computer - some of these photos are a bit dodgy!
